History of Bellagio Wood Tank

  • 1908-14 - Lidio Bellagio served his apprenticeship in carpentry and cooperage.
  • - Lidio left fascist Italy for the U.S.
  • - Alfred Bellagio, after high school and serving in the U.S. Airforce, began repair and resale of redwood and oak tanks. He worked with his father and five other coopers.
  • 1964 - Alfred purchased machinery at George Windeler Co., Ltd. (San Francisco) auction.
  • March 1964 - Alfred and Larry Biagi incorporated the business as A. Bellagio Wood Tank Co., Inc.
    - Biagi brought with him years of manufacturing experience to the corporation, having been a shop foreman at George Windeler Co., Ltd.
    - They began their business in the empty Sodini Winery on Limerick Lane, Healdsburg.
  • 1979 - Gene Nelson (Alfred's step-son) joined the business after completing his bachelor degree.
  • 1980 - Biagi retired.
  • 1981 - Bellagio Wood Tank designed and began construction on a new facility. It included building and lumber drying yard.
  • 1982 - Bellagio Wood Tank moved into the present facility (19,600 sq. ft. under roof) at 100 Grant School Rd., Healdsburg, California
  • 1987 - Installed a Nyle dehumidification kiln.
  • 1989 - Gene continued the tradition after Alfred's death.
  • 1998 - A new Brewer 12" horizontal thin kerf resaw was placed into service.
  • 1998 - Made Hot Dip Galvanized rod hoops, lugs, and nuts our standard inventoried product.
  • 2003 - Installed a U.S. Concepts Arch Moulder and a Western Pneumatic Profile Grinder, beginning our custom curved and arched mouldings production.
  • 2004 & 2005 - Modernized production equipment and removed some older production equipment.
  • 2005 - Installed a template router for in house and custom profile templates and hold down shoes.
  • 2006 - Installed a Mattison 404 Straight Line Glue Edge Ripsaw and a Laharco lazer was added early January 2008.
  • 2007 - Updated our Oliver 166CD 16" Jointer with a Byrd Shelix journal head.
  • 2008 - Began incorporating more structural wood resin epoxies as another tank repair method.
