Redwood tanks are extremely resistant to weathering, eroding only 1/4" per century. However, other tank materials do not have this resistancy.
Sunlight breaks down the polymers in fiberglass, polypropylene, and polyethylene tanks, even those with UV (ultra-violet) inhibitors.
Steel tanks corrode as the epoxy paint chips or flakes away. This requires sandblasting and painting approximately every eight to fifteen years, as well as intermittent spot touch-ups (American Water Works Associations surveys). These repaintings will cost between thirty-five and eighty percent of the initial tank price, and will leave the tank inoperable during this time.
Veritcal cement, brick, and block tank walls will usually crack and leak a few years after erection. One solution to this leakage would be patching, which is not very durable. Another answer would be to use a liner, however the cost of these liners are often equal to or exceed half the original tank cost.
Full redwood tanks have also been known to survive fires, whereas poly tanks melt, steel tanks buckle, and concrete (above ground) tanks explode.
Finally, the only tank material that is a renewable resource is wood.

Warranty
We warranty our tank(s), chime joint(s), and roof(s) to be free of defects and to be manufactured from the best material appropriate for the purpose intended and the workmanship of first quality to produce a tank which will hold water without leaks. However, due to conditions beyond our control, we do not warrant any installation erected by others. If the tank is erected by our crew, we extend the warranty of one year against leakage and will repair or replace any defective material or correct any defective work without cost to the owner, provided the tank was filled to the top with water within 48 hours after completion of the original installation and maintained full of water thereafter.
No other warranty or representation of any kind whatsoever, expressed or implied, except that of title, and all implied warranties, including any warranty of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are hereby disclaimed physically and financially.
